No Longer Contagious’ Top 25 Albums of 2012: 8-10
10) Joyce Manor - Of All Things I Will Soon Grow Tired

Short, sweet, and straight to the point. That’s what I love about Joyce Manor. This album has loud obnoxious punk songs like “If I Needed You There” as well as midpaced tracks channeling early 90s emo bands such as “See How Tame I Can Be”. Despite the fact that it’s only 15 minutes long, Of All Things I Will Soon Grow Tired leaves you satisfied. My only complaint is the inclusion of interlude and outro tracks which seemed more like filler than actual material. But you know what? Anyone who can please a crowd as the opening act while shitfaced is a winner in my books.
9) Torche - Harmonicraft

I’ll admit that this was my first experience listening to Torche. I’d always heard them referred to as “pop metal” but never knew what the fuck anyone was talking about. Well, Harmonicraft sounds as if Torche couldn’t decide whether they wanted to be a stoner metal band or a pop punk band so they did both. This album is groovy and catch and it rocks hard. In short, my dick wiggled. I know that’s inappropriate but it’s the only appropriate description.
8) Baroness - Yellow and Green

Baroness has been known to experiment with sludge and stoner rock. Yellow and Green is no different as it is Baroness’ most creative album to date. This album sounds almost nothing like the band’s previous two. The best way to describe it is a a cross between Pink Floyd and Foo Fighters. Each disc of this album has its own unique flavor. Yellow contains hard rock tracks somewhat similar to older works by Baroness. Green, on the other hand, is much more airy and atmospheric than its counterpart.
This is beautiful and it’s great to know that the band’s fully recovered. Also, I love Jane Doe in the background.
Water Music was so fucking awesome. Here’s a song that was recorded there.
“The Birthing” - Baroness, Red Album
So after 4 years of having this song on in my collection and listening to people say that Baroness is a million times better than Mastodon, I finally listened to Red Album yesterday. And I gotta say, I’m impressed. They’re actually managing to put a creative and refreshing twist on a pretty basic and widespread sound.
…I still think Mastodon is better though.
